Vaccine hesitancy is a public health crisis - public policy forum, Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky

Vaccine hesitancy is a public health crisis, according to Ben Chandler, president and chief executive officer, Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky. At the kick-off of the annual Howard L. Bost Memorial Forum, Chandler called declining trust in vaccines a burgeoning crisis.
The Foundation’s Vaccines in Kentucky Poll shows hope though - progress has been made in decreasing vaccine hesitancy when it comes to the COVID-19 vaccine. Results released last week show efforts have lowered the hesitancy rate by roughly one-third over six months.
Other insights from the poll show include:
Recommended Vaccines
- Seven-in-10 Kentucky adults agree strongly or somewhat that all routine vaccines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are beneficial.
- Four out of five Kentuckians agree strongly or somewhat that being vaccinated is important for the health of others in the community.
- Ninety percent of Kentuckians believe getting vaccinated is a good way to protect themselves from disease.
