KDPH Measles Handout 022423

This is an urgent health alert message for healthcare providers in Kentucky

The Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH) has identified a confirmed case of measles in an individual who attended a large gathering in the Hughes Auditorium at Asbury College in Jessamine County, Kentucky on February 18th while contagious. Large numbers of people attended the gathering from across Kentucky and from other states and countries and may have been exposed.

Measles is a highly contagious viral respiratory illness: additional infections may occur due to these exposures. Clinicians in Kentucky healthcare facilities should be alert to the possibility of individuals with measles infection seeking care in their facility.

Please see the attached guidance for background information and details on diagnosis, testing and infection prevention and control, highlighting transmission prevention in healthcare settings.

Thank you for your vigilance on this and other healthcare/public health issues!
